I appreciate the generous portion sizes and the authentic spice levels, but I felt that the dishes lacked a bit of flavor depth. Additionally, I found the prices to be somewhat on the higher side compared to other Sri Lankan restaurants in the area. While I enjoyed the experience, I believe there is room for improvement, particularly in enhancing the flavors of the dishes to match the authentic spice levels. Overall, it was a decent experience, but I hope to see more flavor in the future, especially considering the prices. :)

A very lowkey local srilankan restaurant. And absolute value for money! The food servings are so so generous. And they don't skimp on the flavour. Everything tasted amazing. We over ordered, so had heaps to take home in containers 😅 The koththu roti is enough to feed 2-3 people. The curry rice deal is also enough to feed probably 2-3 people, if you can eat lots of rice. The mango lassi was also delicious!

If you’re new to Sri Lankan cuisine or already love it, this place will not disappoint. The chicken dishes are outstanding — perfectly cooked, well-spiced, and incredibly satisfying. Every bite tastes fresh and homemade, not watered down or adjusted for shortcuts. Portions are generous and great value for money. Service is warm and friendly, and the atmosphere feels welcoming and genuine. You can tell this is a place run with passion, not just for business. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real Sri Lankan food. Definitely a spot worth supporting and coming back to again and again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An unforgettable Sri Lankan dining experience! We enjoyed dinner on Saturday, and the nasi goreng and game bath gediya were bursting with authentic flavors that took us straight to Sri Lanka. The nasi goreng was a fragrant, spicy masterpiece, blending aromatic spices with a fried egg, chilie paste transporting us to the vibrant streets of Colombo, we got this extra Chicken Devil which goes really well with the rice. The game bath gediya was equally delightful, with its rich, earthy notes. We also tried the Breadfruit curry, which was wonderfully creamy, its velvety coconut milk offering a comforting balance of mild, savory richness. The fish curry brought the heat, with bold red chilies and tangy garcinia creating a spicy, zesty explosion that lingered perfectly. I don’t have words to explain the Amberlla curry flavours! That is wow!! Melbourne’s Sri Lankan community is so lucky to have this gem! The owner’s humility and warmth made the visit even more special. Absolutely worth the trip from Brisbane

If you want to try real Sri Lankan authentic flavours, this is absolutely the place to go. Every dish has that true village style taste rich, aromatic, and full of the traditional flavours we grew up with. I’ve been ordering meals from Cafe Ayubowan for a few years now, and not once have I been disappointed with the taste or quality of the food. Dasun and Nilu, the lovely couple who run the business, always cook everything themselves to ensure the flavours stay 100% authentic. Their passion truly shows in every meal. My personal favourites are the Village Rice (Gamee Bath) and the Chicken Biriyani both packed with flavour and always cooked perfectly. Not only is the food amazing, but their customer service is consistently 5-star. They are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely care about their customers. If you want to experience real Sri Lankan flavours in Melbourne, there’s no better place than Cafe Ayubowan. Highly recommended!

It’s authentic to the core, bursting with real flavours and made with so much heart. The value for money is incredible, and the service is genuinely outstanding. Everyone was so warm, friendly, and honest that it felt less like a restaurant and more like visiting family. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I’ll be telling all my friends about this gem.
